Detailed Instructions
The straps slide under the 4 strap
guides located at the top of your car top carrier. Do not attach anything to the guides,
and do not try to lift the carrier from them. The guides are not designed to hold
any weight or tension.
Place the carrier
on a clean roof with the side without zipper facing forward. As a reference, the
logo is printed on the side of the carrier that should face the back of the car.
The carrier may rest between or over the crossbars or siderails of the rack.
Open
the zipper all the way (3 sides) and fill the carrier while on top of the car instead of on the ground
-- it may get too heavy to lift once it’s full. To minimize wind noise and
improve gas mileage, place the carrier as far back on the roof as possible, place
more items toward the rear to preserve its wedge shape, and fill it as much as possible so that the
outer carrier surface is as smooth as possible. Also, cushion hard or sharp objects pressing against the fabric, to
avoid damage to the fabric. Close the zipper so the 2 zipper pullers meet at the
back. Make sure to leave no open gap between the pullers, to avoid water entry.
Fastening the
carrier to siderails: (similar instructions apply to crossbars). Hold one strap
buckle so the stitched end of the strap faces downward. Since the buckle is slightly curved, the convex side of the buckle should face up and the concave side should face down.
Keeping this buckle orientation,
thread the free end of the strap under the two front guides. Continue downward and
around the siderail in an inward direction, toward the carrier. Immediately go up over the carrier
(not under the carrier), under the previously threaded section of strap, going
again under the two front guides, then downward and around the other siderail, this
time in an outward direction (away from the carrier), then upward to meet the buckle
on the other end of the strap.
Thread the free end of the strap through the center
slot of the buckle in a direction away from the carrier, and then through the slot
near the end of the buckle, toward the carrier. Pull the short end to take up the
slack. The strap should slide in the buckle when you pull its end but not when you
pull from the main section. Repeat with the second long strap. If installing a second
pair of straps, they go perpendicular to the first pair, passing under the same
4 strap guides.
Secure the free ends of the straps with the end keepers attached to the straps,
or by tucking the free ends under the straps, to avoid strap flapping. Check the
firmness of the straps during travel and re-tighten if necessary. Secure loose portions
of the carrier fabric under the straps to avoid fabric flapping. Flapping causes
noise, lowers gas mileage and may damage (delaminate) the fabric. Fabric delamination
is not covered by the warranty. Don’t attach the straps to open hooks, or
to any portion of the car or rack not intended to support heavy loads.
